Sparkstember Day 25: Hippopotamus (What The Hell Is It This Time?)

My Hippopotamus rant is here. I love Hippo and I think this was one of the best examples of how putting something off for later can be a very good idea sometimes. So I didn't hear most of it until this summer, and hearing the whole album then was one of the biggest highlights of that time. Controlled Chaos: Polaroids

Based on the following ask: This is my first time request here and I’m a little nervous😅so I hope I made the idea understandable. I don't know if you've ever seen this trend on TikTok where on the wedding day the bridesmaids give the groom Polaroids of the bride that are like her in lingerie and things like that, and he finally gets all nervous and somewhat smiling and puts them away in his suit after seeing them🥹 You could write something like this with Aaron as he marries the reader and maybe the reader's friends or the BAU girls give him Polaroids of the reader in lingerie, nothing too relevant but something that makes him nervous ☺️ I hope I have explained myself well, if not I am sorry, also take this only if you feel comfortable, if not you have every right to ignore it, I love your work, you are an amazing writer!🩵- I love this idea!!! The idea had come from your closest friend. She had done a boudoir photoshoot and made up an album for her husband on their anniversary. You were about five weeks away from the wedding, having a lunch with the bridesmaids and it had all spiraled so fast.

“Guys look at these photos I had taken!” Victoria pushed her phone in your direction, showing off a particularly racy photo of herself.

“Damn girl you look hot, what are these for?” Claire asked.

“So, Matthew’s birthday was last week, and I wanted to do something special for him. My sister had told me about this boudoir photographer, and I thought it would be nice to put a little album together for him.” Victoria explained.

“Oh my god…what did he say?” You blushed.

“He was practically drooling.” Victoria laughed.

“You should do that for Aaron!” Daisy nudged your arm suggestively.

“What? I mean, I would, but when would I even give it to him?” You questioned.

“Well, you don’t have to make it into an album! You could just get prints made.” Victoria clarified.

“I’m not sure I’d want like 5x7 boudoir photos of me just around…” You contemplated.

“Oh my gosh! What about polaroids? You could do polaroids and give them to him like one at a time!” Claire gushed.

“Imagine if you gave them to him at the wedding!” Daisy laughed.

“Even better, if we gave them to him!” Claire added.

“You guys are geniuses!” Victoria exclaimed. “You should get the photos taken as polaroids, and you could get the digitals too in case you wanted to make an album of them later, but throughout the reception, imagine if we walked up to Aaron and subtly handed him the pictures of you!”

“Well…I don’t know. He’d definitely be flustered.” You thought about it for a moment. “You know what, let’s do it!”

That day the girls took you to a lingerie store to pick up some of your wedding night and honeymoon pieces that you would also wear for the photoshoot.

You had found some pieces that you knew would work under your dress and you were feeling pretty good with everything you had gotten for the honeymoon as well. Some teddies and bodysuits as well as some simpler pieces to sleep in, should you need it, and lastly some swimsuits.

Victoria also reached out to the photographer to see if she had availability within the next few weeks and thankfully she did, the week before the wedding.

Time had flown by; your wedding day was finally here, and you couldn’t have been more excited about marrying Aaron.

You had woken up early and had breakfast with your bridesmaids and immediate female relatives. You’d all decided you’d get ready together before heading to the wedding venue.

Makeup and hair was done, dresses were steamed, mimosas were sipped, getting ready photos were taken. The time was finally here…in just a few moments, you’d be walking down the aisle to marry the love of your life.

The girls had helped you into your dress and all gushed over how beautiful you were. They’d stuffed their pockets (because dresses with pockets are so much better) with tissues, lipstick, and the polaroids. Excited to see how Aaron would react.

Aaron had cried as you made your way to him, proudly shedding tears that were formed of the love he held for you. Once you stepped up beside him you leaned across and wiped a tear from his cheek which he paid back with a kiss to your palm.

The ceremony wasn’t too long, but the two of you had been adamant of writing your own vows, which arguably was the highlight of the entire day.

My life before you had been on autopilot, just running through the motions of the day to day. You have brought this air of light and spontaneity and just the slightest bit of controlled chaos into my world and I am so grateful for you. So, I want to make a few promises to you as we stand here today in front of our loved ones. I promise to love you in every moment, to embrace the chaos, to enjoy the big moments and cherish the small moments. I promise to give you my all, and sweetheart I will offer advice when words are needed and offer my shoulder when they’re not. You have my heart for always. I love you.

Aaron, I believe that we were destined to find one another. Early on in our relationship, I told you that the story of our lives was written in the stars and if our time together has told me anything, its that it is. You and I always find balance with one another, when I have my head in the clouds, you are there to ground me, when you are buried with work, I’m there with the shovel. People say that relationships are fifty/fifty but with us, we always give our best if I can give thirty percent, you don’t hesitate to give seventy percent…like I said, balance. So, my promises to you, when things get dark, I will bring you light, I will do my best to keep my chaos controlled, I will ensure you feel heard when you speak. Aaron I will have your back when someone challenges you, and I will call you out if you’re wrong. Most importantly I will love you with all of me, for always. I love you.

You both cried through your vows, allowing yourselves to feel and embrace the vulnerability of the love you have built and continued to share over the last few years. Your loved ones cheered as you kissed for the first time as husband and wife, the sound all a haze, fogged by the bliss you were feeling.

Aaron and you went off to take some photos before the reception began. Some alone and some with family as well as the wedding party. Your bridesmaids giggling for what’s to come as you finished up with the photographer.

The girls had established a plan for how they’d give Aaron the photos throughout the evening. They wanted to do it in the most awkward possible of moments, and while he was away from you if possible…it needed to be done subtly to avoid others seeing the photos. There were seven photos in total, each bridesmaid would give Aaron two throughout the evening and you’d give him the last one…which was the most risqué.

Photo #1

Daisy had the first photo, one that wasn’t too revealing, but it was sexy, nonetheless. In it, you were wearing a lace set with your robe hanging behind you as you let it slip off. The photo was taken from behind as you gaze out a window, revealing the high cut of the lace panties.

She had been the most diabolical of your three bridesmaids, opting for the most awkward of times to hand the photos to Aaron. For this first one, Daisy walked with confidence to wear Aaron stood, having a drink with your father. She slid her hand into his, pulling it up and animatedly thanked him.

“You have made her so happy, and I am just so glad she has you.” Daisy released his hand, leaving behind the small polaroid before sending him a wink and sauntering off towards where you stood with your grandmother.

Aaron was confused at first…worrying that Daisy might be coming on to him, but that fear dissipated and was quickly replaced with a nervous chuckle and a burning heat that crept up his neck as he viewed the photo.

His eyes shot over to where you stood, completely unfazed, paying him no mind. He looked back to your father and uncomfortably cleared his throat, sliding the photo into the interior chest pocket of his jacket.

“You alright there Aaron?” Your father had asked.

To which Aaron replied with a curt nod.

Victoria had the second photo. She had been a little more forgiving with the times she chose to pass them off to him.

You had just stepped away from your table to greet one of your cousins when she walked over to where Aaron was now seated alone. She hadn’t said a word as she slid the photo under his fingers where they rested on the table.

“What are you-” He was cut off as Victoria walked away without a word.

He had more privacy to really view this one, so he flipped it over and once again instantly became flushed. You were in a lace bodysuit leaning face-down, over the edge of the bed, back arched and bent legs, your feet up and pointed. The way the light was hitting you in the image was breathtaking and Aaron couldn’t help the tightness that formed in his slacks.

The third photo was given to Aaron in between speeches. Dave, his best man had just finished his and Claire had slipped him the photo before stepping up to give her speech.

This one had taken Aaron by surprise, not only the timing but the content. You were lying on your stomach, head seemingly propped up on your hands, once again with your feet up…only this time it was taken from behind. Your body was covered in nothing but your veil and the only thing that covered your naked bottom were your heel-clad feet. The angle had been just right to allow your raised feet to align with where you were clearly naked.

Aaron admired the photo for a moment before tucking it into his pocket with the others. Leaning in close to whisper in your ear.

“What do you think you’re doing?” He asked.

“What are you talking about?” You feigned innocence.

Aaron shook his head and prepared himself for what was to come.

This was the first of the more racy photos you’d taken, and Daisy couldn’t wait to give it to Aaron at the worst possible time…like now for instance while he’s chatting with his entire team.

“Aaron!” She called, rushing over to him. “We’re going to do some makeup and hair touchups before you guys dance.”

“Okay, does she need me?” Aaron asked…always the gentleman, putting you first.

“I think she’s good. We’ll be back in a few.” Daisy said nudging his hand with the photo.

She ran off toward you and the other girls to go refresh before your first dance. This time, Aaron blushed before even looking at the photo, completely mortified that it was handed to him in front of a group of profilers. He lifted it as casually as possible, stealing a quick glance before panicking and shoving it in his pocket.

You were leaning back, resting your weight on your forearms, your knees bent just barely out of frame. You head was tossed back…in a way Aaron was all too familiar with. Your body was adorned in white lace that left nothing to the imagination, he was sure that even in the moment he glanced, he could see every detail of your breasts.

“Woah there bossman…what’s got you all flustered?” Derek teased.

“Nothing. I’m good, never better.” Aaron answered all too quickly.

“Was that a photo you glanced at…” Emily inquired.

“No.” Aaron couldn’t help the blush that continued to spread…now burning his ears.

“Aaron, I know you’re not lying to a group of profilers. What is it?” Dave pressed.

“I can’t show you. All I am going to say is that the bridesmaids have handed me some photos throughout the evening.” Aaron scratched his neck sheepishly.

“Ohhh…they’re “photos” of Mrs. Hotchner.” JJ had put it together, now giggling with Emily and Penelope.

 This photo, while not the most intimate of them, was given to him in the most shocking of ways. You had just finished your father-daughter dance and Aaron was headed to the dance floor with his mother to share a quick dance before everyone was invited to dance.

Victoria had asked you if you’d be okay with recruiting another helper and you’d agreed. So, she explained the situation to your mother-in-law, and she happily agreed to pass along the photo. She kept it faced down to protect your modesty but handed it off to Aaron with a pat to his chest as their dance ended.

And so, he stood in the middle of the dance floor looking at a photo of you lying on your back, the photo focused on your left hand gripping the white sheets you were lying on, your wedding ring gracing your ring finger. It again was a sight that was all too familiar…and this night was starting to feel like he’d never get you alone.

Claire approached Aaron with the second to last photo as you were about to cut the cake. She grabbed his hand and set it on his palm, offered a smile and walked away.

At this point the embarrassment of it all was gone…Aaron was starting to feel impatient, wanting nothing more than to take you to your suite and have his way with you. He knew that there’d be plenty of time for that and shook away the thought. Glancing at this photo, and then up at you as you made your way to him. He was in awe of you and how beautiful you were.

In this photo you were knelt on a bed, the straps of the rose-colored lace bra had slipped off your shoulders and the high cut lace panties showed off the curves of your ass beautifully. Your hair hung to the side with the way your head was tilted.

As Aaron tucked this photo away with the others, he caught your gaze. You shared a quick smile before you walked over to him and continued on with the cake cutting.

This photo was different from the others, in more ways than one.

The night had been coming to a close, you had said your thank yous and goodbyes to your friends and family. Your wedding party had loaded all the wedding gifts into the car and you guys were just about ready to make your big exit.

As everyone gathered outside and prepared their sparklers you and Aaron shared a private moment. Stealing kisses waiting for your cue, and just as it was given, you slipped Aaron the final photo. He looked at it, completely dumbfounded, before you took his hand and pulled him along with you toward the waiting car.

In this photo you were stood completely bare in front of a mirror. Your arms were up above your head, having clearly mussed your hair.

As you slid into the backseat of the town car, Aaron practically pounced on you, kissing you hungrily. His hands slid down your back along the buttons of your dress.

“Do you have any idea what you’ve done to me tonight?" He asked, nipping at your neck.

“Controlled chaos, honey.”

(22) Heart and Soul <3

Long ramble under the cut

I’ll be honest I have no idea why these two resonate so much with me, they barely interact in the album one on one. But I think they’re really cute and I’m kissing them on the tops of their heads. They have so much potential.

(Please don’t crucify me for any of this, I acknowledge that some of my takes may be ooc. This is all based on interpretation and whimsy. Soul is hard for me to characterize.)

My version of Soul is tired. He’s driven to drastic decisions that he does not want to do. He loves his Heart and his Mind with his entire being just as much as he hates them, they’re him! They’re a package deal! But in Cacophony Heart and Mind are far too absorbed with their rivalry to really acknowledge him unless it’s to turn the argument in their favor. He feels ostracized and used, more like something to be fought over than a friend. I think he’s really lonely.

And then you have Heart. Someone who yearns to be understood but struggles to express himself in a healthy way. He craves for unity just as much as Soul and Mind do, but ultimately crumbles beneath his own perception of the others and his loathing. He wants to love, he has the capacity to if he is the entire emotion spectrum, he just can’t express it right now because of everything going on inside his head.

Soul really needs a hug and to feel loved -> Heart really needs a hug and to feel understood

Both are incredibly lonely in their own ways, but they also have the ability to be mutually beneficial for each other in Cacophony.

Assuming Soul is half and half of both sides, he’s able to understand and at least sympathize with Hearts point of view. He doesn’t agree with it, he can see past all of the twisted perceptions, but he’s able to provide the sympathy/understanding that Heart needs. No matter how small. And in turn Heart is able to provide that brief feeling of togetherness and unity. Heart is most likely the easiest to connect with on a surface level, and therefore the best option for when Soul is feeling down and hopeless.

Heart thinks the entire world is against him, he believes that Mind and by extension Soul hate him and want him gone. Soul is able to quell the moons worries, at least for the night. Soul believes that his sides hate him just as much as they hate each other, he wants them all to get along. Heart can provide that feeling of unity, physical touch acting as a form of reassurance and communication. He can pretend that everything is good for a moment and that the warm body beside him is how it’s supposed to be.

I headcanon Mind as touch adverse and Heart as very physical, so Soul is the perfect middle ground! Heart and Soul are able to connect on a very emotional level, and therefore have an easier time showing affection and being close. Lots of cuddles! Lots of comforting! They don’t have to talk, there’s no pressure, they can just hug and everything melts aways. They want to keep each other safe and happy.

Their relationship is so appealing because there’s no barrier between them. They can connect with and understand each other on a very emotional level, switching seamlessly between comforter and comfortee in most scenarios.

I have a lot to say about them in an angst sense, but it delves a bit too far into headcanons and is incredibly long. That’s a discussion for another time, I’m trying to focus on the positives of their dynamic here. Heart and Soul angst absolutely cooks though, trust.

I may be delusional. But in my HEART and in my SOUL they are very close. They share the same night sky! The moon orbits the earth and controls the tides! You can only see the stars when it’s night time!!!!

(Quickly going to clarify that I personally accept a lot of different interpretations of Hearts blindness as canon, I generally like and accept most headcanons even if they conflict with eachother. Soul blinded Heart? Cool. Mind blinded Heart? Epic. Heart was always blind? Awesome. I personally don’t really care and I think all of them can be true simultaneously. Why the hell not, time does not exist on a linear scale. I don’t agree with Soul being 100% an abuser though, he’s just as much of a complicated victim as the other two.

I personally like the idea that Heart did it to himself in apathy the most. Doodle Heart has subscribed to that, as will all/most of my interpretations of him. My Soul didn’t hurt him in that way. And I think he was actually quite mortified when he found out.)

Be silly be goofy, do whatever the hell you want, at the end of the day this is my own personal point of view. They swim in my brain like little amoeba and have rerouted all my nerves. I’m definitely more inclined to be soft on them so take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt. My ass is biased. On my hands and knees begging for more content of them though. PLEASE.

On a less serious note. I think Heart is Souls little guy. He love him :(

Wishlist Ideas for Closeted Regressors

So, it’s a little early to be posting holiday stuff, but I wanted to get this out there so since I know a lot of people start their holiday shopping around this time. So, If you’re looking for agere gear as a closeted regressor, or you just want something that’s subtle, here are 12 ideas-with pics. Note: pics are not mine, they are screenshotted from Amazon. prices are in USD, as Im American. Happy regressing and happy holidays!

1.Kawaii water bottles, specifically in the style below. The straw on most of these is a lot like a sippy or bottle, so if you can’t have/don’t want one of those, then these are a great alternative! Just look up ‘kawaii water bottle’ on Amazon and a whole bunch will show up. Most are between $15-25 USD

2. Funko Pops. I actually use mine as action figures and play with them (just be gentle with them if you do this!) so they can be great agere toys and decor! You can find just about any character and any fandom too. The prices very greatly, depending on what character and where you buy from. Black Friday deals on Amazon and Five Below are great ways to find them for only a few dollars.

3. Fidget toys; they can make great Agere activities! Because they are designed to stimulate your senses, many function similarly to baby toys. Note: when buying in bulk packages, the quality isn’t great. So consider whether you want to invest in better quality or quantity. Most bulk fidget packs are about $25 USD on Amazon. Dollar stores often have similar products as well, though once again the quality is unknown.

4. Fleece throw blankets. They are super cute, soft, and cuddly! Not only can they keep you warm, but I like to use mine as a playmat. Once again, price can very greatly; typically anywhere from $10-30 USD

5. Coloring books. I think this one is pretty self explanatory, as lots of regressors love coloring. If you’re worried about rousing suspicion, then just ask for an adult coloring book; these often have more intricate patterns, but if you ask for a fandom themed one, it’ll still have some awesome characters to color! my Wheel of Time Season 3 Soundtrack Predictions

more like a wishlist but whatever.

Lorne Balfe has released a little clip of the soundtrack here, so we can speculate what that's for. Personally, I think this will be meant as a mirror to Ta'mara'ailen, which is about fate and the Wheel and used in a lot of ta'veren moments, and so be used for what could be, different futures, mirror worlds, and unreality like what we'll see in the rings. Would this include Tel'aran'rhiod? maybe. I flip-flop on this

theme for the Andoran royal family (i think we got hints of this in the Galad vs. Gawyn clip, but we'll get a more stately version when we meet Morgase). I also think we'd get an Elayne personal theme, but the two might be heavily related, like Aviendha's and the Aiel theme

Possibly an Elaida theme? I would love some intertwining between this one and Aes Sedai, Al'Naito, and Andoran themes- get some foreshadowing in there! And if it exists, it'll probably have a bombastic version on the themes version but played ominously in the show, like the Liandrin theme

A new Forsaken theme- currently the Forsaken have a warped version of the Wheel Intro theme/Moiraine Sedai as their theme, but I would love for them to get a new one, and I would love it to be the most modern sounding. We got maybe some hints with the Ishamael/Lanfear sealings/unsealings? Would love to hear that back again. If we get Asmodean I think a new Forsaken theme on the theramin would be kinda amazing. Also we need this for Nynaeve vs. Moghedien- because Nynaeve's theme deserves to shine, it's so built for a battle of wills with the loping chanting chorus

The Finns- listen, I believe they're gonna be there. and they deserve a weird theme, different scales, polyrhythms, something different. Maybe a Shepard tone, like in Dunkirk's soundtrack, to physically make you uncomfortable

I don't think the Aiel Wise Ones or the Sea Folk Windfinders should use the Aes Sedai theme, because that pretty heavily references Tar Valon. So I'm envisioning a new non-Tar Valon saidar theme, and the Wise Ones and Windfinder reveal to coincide with each other for a nice scene- really emphasizing that Tar Valon doesn't have a monopoly on the One Power

Also the Aiel theme (Desert Warriors) getting softer during Rhuidean flashbacks, maybe even a Tuatha'an spin-off version of the theme to really emphasize their shared origin

A Tanchico theme- preferably something that can be converted into a little riff to play over the Tanchico squad's more goofy moments. We need a fun theme. maybe to be played on a trombone

Perrin/Faile love theme- Lan and Nynaeve have Mashiara, Rand and Egwene have Mashithamel, Rand and Lanfear have The Dragon's Heart. The gentle giant and the pocket rocket deserve something for themselves. And I do think a love theme will also encourage people to think of them as a couple before they actually get together. I'd love this to have some lyrics, since Perrin's theme doesn't and Perrin and Faile's relationship deals a lot with communication

Perhaps a Lan theme on his own? He has Wab'shar most associated with him, and Mashiara of course, but with another Malkieri character coming up we may see more of his heritage and identity come more to the surface and new music to go with it

Some awesome returning themes! Caisenshar for the Two Rivers fighting back, Mordero'Sheen for some creepy Shadowspawn moments- we're supposed to get a new one this season and the track is basically a list of Shadowspawn so that's exciting- and Mashithamel for some Rand and Egwene last hurrah moments. And of course the Wheel theme/Moiraine Sedai coming in full blast with the strings

If anyone's got any suggestions, I'd love to hear them before the album drops!

Edited out the announcements (except for the intro track)

Saved them as MP3s

Custom front and back cover (not the best, I'll admit but it adds to the bootleg charm)

Typed out the lyrics to each song

You can go over to our Internet Archive page and listen to the full "album" in it's entirety. You can also download it in case you want to make a physical copy or just listen to it on your morning drive to work.

Elena of Avalor Watch: The Finale, Coronation Day!

(pre watch thoughts: holy cow i can't believe im here this is THE moment i've been waiting for! this thing is a literal feature film what the FUCK. i can't wait to get into the game. this is gonna be SOOOOOOOOOOO FIRE. esteban and crew are bound to show up i KNOW it.)

what. the FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

emotional damage from watching a disney junior finale was not on my 2025 bingo card....... brb im listening to every song in the coronation day album and uh. thinking thoughts. having flashbacks. thinking more thoughts.

Whilst watching the movie, I knew I wanted to make this post, thus I did some minor liveblogging on my notes app on my phone. This leaves me several interesting contention points in which to talk about.

They put an INSANE amount of musical numbers in this movie.

What was it, 5 songs? Six? I attempted to count but lost count because I was too entangled in the plot. All the songs are great. Bro. When they played Never Too Late AND IT WAS AN ELENA AND ESTEBAN DUET!?!?!?!! GOD. Was fucking cheering. That was so awesome. The ending and beginning songs were so great and nice endings and intros to the "episode" (I will refer to this as a movie from now on because this shit was 1hr and 15mins that's literally a full length feature film to me).

Also in the Shades' musical number, poor Esteban. My guy was just suffering. Poor thing.

My one singular issue is that it was either my computer's speakers or poor mixing but I could barely hear the voices in the song over the loud instrumental in some songs. It sounds a bit better on Spotify so maybe it was just that. Kinda ruined the song immersion experience but I can live with that I suppose.

The Plot Part 1: The Shades

The Shades of Awesome (formerly The Shadows of the Night) are, in fact, quite awesome. Now THIS is an antagonistic force if I ever saw one (like seriously this is the ultimate Big Bad that's bigger than Shuriki, Ash was just Shuriki Lite tbh and not as interesting, despite what the show attempts to do, which is have her be a "one up" force). There's an electric power guy, a guy who can turn people into animals using fireball esque powers, a guy who can control emotions and shit (and has a fire design to boot), and the girl who can slow down time.

I absolutely ADORED emotion guy's design. I LOVE the concept of his face switching both physically and in color depending on emotions. I find this so interesting because the emotion colors look like Elena's emotion colors?? Why is that? I wonder if there's a universal emotion magic out there and both of them (Elena and emotion guy) have access to its control.

Time girlie was the most plot relevant, which I suppose makes sense, although to me, it feels odd that there even was a most plot relevant one. I got the feeling that the Shades would ALL work together in unison as some kind of force because I felt like they were a group or something but it seemed while they have their own goals, the movie portrays them as slightly "less important" or "more defeatable" which to me felt a bit odd. They should've had a multitude moment. But in terms of how the plot flowed, the time one was a bigger threat by default because she plays with a pretty strong force. Like if there's a time person, where's the death power, or the life power? Disney Jr doesn't have the balls to give us Death personified, I suppose, maybe it was meant to be left up to peak Dreamworks movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish after all...

The Plot Part 2: Elena + Ash in the Spirit World

I'm glad the show acknowledges Elena was actively committing a dick move by NOT going after Ash, WHO BY THE WAY WAS CHANTING A SPELL(!!!!!!), and going after Esteban!!! I was so mad about that. Elena, seriously? But anyways.

Elena and Ash being trapped in the spirit world (the dark side specifically) was.... interesting. Was NOT expecting that. "Journeys to the Spirit World" BITCH SHE IS TRAPPED IN THERE SHE DIDN'T ASK TO BE THERE!!!!

Bobo jumpscare! What are you doing here my guy. He was a fun addition though. My initial writeup for this was "BOBO??? BITCH WHAT?????? YOU'RE IN THIS TOO????" but he didn't disappoint!

The Grand Macaw we get introduced to literally shocked me. He looks WAYYYYYYY too chill about ruling this place. If you told me he ruled the good side of the Spirit World I'd probably believe you. But I guess his selfishness is what got him there. Not the personality OR design I was expecting. Crazy. But he's interesting! "He doesn't mean what he says and doesn't say what he means." What an interesting line! Because at first I thought this referred to "No Rules" somehow but it ACTUALLY referred to the Lower side and Higher side. Macaw has an INSANE control of the crowd, he lowers his hand and the crowd immediately shuts up. This is some god tier audience control. I almost wanted to see the off on off on sound of the crowd (would've been so satisfying to my autistic ass).

He's so Unserious too. How do we get back to Avalor? We play fucking OLABALL. OLABALL.

Turns out the way out is to LOSE. Ok, that's such a fire concept. I love how Ash's defeat is so mediocre because despite trying to build her up as a threat, she fucking wins an Olaball game and is Spirit Worlded forever. That is so goofy. Goofiest sendoff in this show. Shuriki had a more dramatic one, with the whole canonical murder via Scepter of Light scene, but this was just funny.

Also wait. What is this "tiger hawk" and how does it just send everyone to the dark side? Like Zopilote was eaten, fox guy was eaten.... so like. Is this some kind of death trap creature? Is the sending to the dark side vs light side determined by levels of evilness inside you? Now THAT would be cool if that's true.

The Plot Part 3: Esteban's No Good, Very Bad Day (+ Forgiveness Arc)

Esteban has NO idea what he is doing. Given control of 4 very powerful beings who (claim) will bend under his command, he fucking decides to be king right on the spot. Bro had to think!!! They literally interrogated him for that info because that kinda came out of nowhere. We also got this shit in season 1 initially when he first thought about it, so it's not totally out of nowhere. It's just that I haven't seen him express this in 2 seasons (unless I am forgetting an episode).

I find it so interesting that the Shades double crossed him and he didn't even know it. I suppose trusting villains is like. His thing. His fatal error. He cannot stop trusting them to uphold his standards for some reason. He really does keep making the same mistake over and over again. Once with Shuriki, twice with Ash + Co, THRICE with these all-powerful Awesomes. God, you are pathetic! (/aff)

There is a ever so minor personality switch I sense in which he's MORE protective over Elena than usual. Maybe he finally knows the deep shit he's dug himself into and is trying to at least save them but that's interesting to me.

When Esteban goes to take over the kingdom (bro that speech was giving Cedric I'm sorry. I know they ain't the same character but that scene in particular sure felt when he started yapping about taking the throne and being respected and heard... literally Cedric.), Franciso (who i've been accidentally referring to as Abuelo regardless of relation) asks Esteban why he's doing this and now THIS is basically what I've been wanting to hear!!! What bullshit did he think went wrong to the point where this was necessary!!

Turns out it is Being Listened To.

Which is kind of... odd? Like I get the pattern of "you rightfully warn you beloveds that danger is near and they do not listen and you are inevitably RIGHT" sucks ass but I don't understand? I don't understand why this leads to his "villain" arc. When the Shades call him a villain, he's like "I'm not a villain" SO WHAT DOES THAT MAKE YOU???

Bro, you were feeling up for kingdom takeover literally 5 seconds ago. Get real. This further confirms a thought I'd had in a previous post where I claimed even HE didn't know what side he was on.

This is true, as Esteban would say.

During the absolute banger of a song sequence Never Too Late, he laments about this whole... realization in a way in which he KNOWS he fucked up and knows he's not gonna be able to take it back. Well, it's... something. Like. I don't know how to feel because when I think back to his other actions, in which he proceeded to do several "wrong" things, it makes sense, I guess, but the opinion's mixed. Yeah, my guy, you are NOT gonna be able to take back what you've done, and you know this. Thank God.

I also think this contradicts the whole "I felt like an outcast!" speech he gave the Council before he was exiled. But here's my interpretation of events:

- Esteban did not feel HEARD, and that was his main issue, but over time, this spiraled into "I have been an outcast and nobody loves me". I believe that's just a mental process. It's not rational thinking, but Esteban using rational thinking was disregarded ages ago, so it's okay.

- In the Mother's day episode, this is basically confirmed. We get flashbacks to Esteban's childhood and life, and we're shown something significantly different from what we've been told: a relatively happy childhood. In flashbacks where we thought it was going to lead to Esteban being left out, even subtly, but it's revealed he wasn't. Lucia even has a 1 on 1 moment!!! That's the polar opposite of being an outcast I fear.

- Might be a stretch, but could the grief of Esteban losing his parents have led to resentment, even if it wasn't rational? Like. The way he was jealous/emotional over the random kid and his mom. I wonder if this same idea applies to when he saw Elena and her family. They lived together, after all. He seemed to me to be a closed off/hesitant to share his feelings kind of kid, so maybe this led to some mental hate brewing despite the love given to him.

Also here's a bit: When Luisa (I think that's her name, i also keep calling her abuela), tells Esteban that taking over the kingdom will let him be listened to, but he won't be loved or respected, not truly, that was so interesting to me.

Because it's true.

I feel like the AU episode where Elena wasn't queen had that shown to us: He was king, ruler of Avalor, but at what cost? Everyone is afraid of him. If anyone spoke evil of him, they went straight to the dungeon. No one had freedom to do anything. I wonder if this was actually his intention when normal Esteban said he wanted to be king. Was this what he was going to do to his people? Enslave them in jobs they don't like and rig the rules? Maybe if he was a bit more evil and fucked up inside (or gave into his delusions of respect and greatness).

Esteban's forgiveness scene was fucking BONKERS. My jaw DROPPED when they actually had him in stone for a second and Elena was crying over him. This show was SUPPOSED to be on Disney Channel I could just feel it.

But it proved one thing to me: He was still absolutely determined to protect his family. Somehow, despite the 7 layers of delusion that gave him the idea that his family outcasted him and that becoming king will somehow make that better, he is ever so determined to protect them. Like he perked up, immediately transported to Elena, and fucking STOOD THERE, AND TOOK THE MAGIC BULLET. HE FROZE HIMSELF IN STONE. Brother I'm sorry that's an insane sacrifice, more than your weak ass "stop!" you've been saying to Ash has ever done.

The biggest question of all: Do I believe Esteban deserves Elena's forgiveness? My answer is... kinda? Like I think the way I see it, the forgiveness is mainly not for his actions (which girl I would not forgive him for either), but for something deeper. I do not know how to describe this at all but the gist is, I don't think the show was forgiving his actions, but rather acknowledging the development he has had that has given Elena the notion that Esteban was ready to change.

Like if anything convinces you that a man is ready to leave villainy once and for all, it's freezing himself permanently to save your ass. That's how I see it.

Can be traced back to Victor and Carla's "forgiveness" moment. They prove they're on Elena's side, not by begging for their actions to be rescinded, but by showing her that they've changed. I don't think their actions are forgivable either, but I think the point of forgiveness in this series is about the individual proving they are removed from their past and becoming a better version of themselves.

Proven by when Elena says "We may not be able to change the past, but if we can change ourselves, we have the power to change the future."

THAT. THAT!!! Is the shit I'm getting at. This is why Esteban was forgiven. And I think I believe in THAT forgiveness more than I do that anyone of the antagonist's actions as doings are forgiven along with the person.

Im realizing that the movie and especially the show as a whole are getting at the point that actions make a person, but it's like points in time. It's the past, it's up to you to change your future and decide who you want to be, and take appropriate actions that, despite never making up for previous ones, show change in mindset. Forgiveness of actions doesn't come with forgiveness of person, not automatically anyway.

But enough with this sappy shit XD.

I LOVE the visuals for the whole forgiveness scene by the way. Absolutely LIVE for this blue ass lighting showing a complete change in tone (is the fact that the lighting inside the castle is still bright mean something? Can it imply that Esteban was trapped in his little world of nicety and pretending he was in the right, and only now got out of it?), and just nice looking scenes generally. Esteban having tears when he was saying "I'm sorry"..... bro..... wild.....

I love how now Esteban can just use Elena's Scepter because he's got the magic inside him!! That's so neat and also vice versa with the stick!!!! God i love magic lore.

Them transporting themselves to the spirit world! Wait so the implication is that there is a radius limit on Esteban's magic? Even if he gets good? I mean that makes sense it took a toll on BOTH parties to even get there and back.

Also, we literally never get to see more Esteban powers like dawg we get it, you can teleport yourself. WHAT ELSE?????? WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO???? WHAT FUCKING SHIT DO YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT????!?!

The Plot Part 4: The Coronation Event

Goddammit Elena, your dress is SOOOO COOL!!!! That shit high key was so fucking awesome. Loved the ceremony and shit.

(Did not like Sofia and Co's redesigns. James is a fucking roblox avatar and their faces look weird. They spent the budget for Elena's pretty dress but at what cost to beloved IP Sofia the First...)

The roles she gives everyone!!!

Naomi is Chancellor! Now that I was not expecting! Because to me, I assumed Esteban was going to be Chancellor again, but I suppose that's one thing you lose by having done [insert ginormous masterpost i do not have]. The elenaomi shipper in me sobbed for joy. Deadass Kingdom Yuri. To me.

General Gabe!!! I didn't even know there was a General role, but congrats man! You deserve it!

Master Wizard Mateo!!! Oh my gosh I actually have a small bit about this because like. This makes his character development go full circle. Like he was told by Alacazar that he had to be his own master wizard, and there is he, master wizarding! He's gotten the title he looked up to Alacazar for!!!

Royal Inventor Isa!!!! Now girl, that's so sweet 🥺🥺 She really deserves it, though I question whether she's a tad bit too young for such a role, but honestly I love it!! Truly the sisters of all time <333

Miscellaneous Points I Dedicate Here

- Isabel proving she can stand on her own is such a neat plot point, and one that's been steadily building! I love how they made the episode with Quita Moz relevant to this!! They had her display bravery!! Honestly Quita Moz, great job man, your odd maze worked! And also ingenuity lessons from that other episode!!!

- Mateo's basement is actually relevant and being used for its true purpose: a hideaway for when mfs take over your kingdom!!

- The little crown adjustment at the end was such a nice intro callback!!!!!

- The credits!!! I watched the entire damn credits because of bloody fireworks, but oh I loved it so!

- When Victor and Carla point their Tamboritas at Ash during the sea battle, Ash is all like, "How could you point that at me? Your máma?" Which is just bonkers for her to say. She claims she loves them more than anything, but if you did, you wouldn't have frozen your husband in stone and left, now would you? And you would've saved Victor when given the chance instead of thirsting for power for 5 seconds. But you didn't. You stopped being a good mother figure right there for me. Hey, at least when Victor and Carla were walking home in the snowstorm from season 2 and Carla got hurt, Victor was fucking carrying her home AND trudging her through the storm. That's dedication. Love truly transcends evil fr.

Forcing Carla to blast Ash was wild. She was hesitant and I get it, it's her mother, but Victor gave no shits and went for it. Hell yeah. We love this father-daughter crew. Literally best duo <3

Overall this was THE most awesomest Disney Jr show I've witnessed. This was totally supposed to be Disney Channel but okkkkk whatever they say 🙄

- Finale was nicely paced. Truth.

I would totally do this again tbh like I'd rewatch if I could.

Finale was peak 100/10. That was an Experience.

miguel o'hara had never been big on physical touch. or talking. or purposefully making funny jokes. he actually wasn't a big fan on a lot of things. the only person he really regularly talked to was lyla, but that was only because he had to in order to get things going in the spider society-- but someone he could never find himself pushing away from was you. at first, being completely honest, he'd been so busy with monitoring the whole spider society that he'd neglected to realize that you and lyla were attached at the hip. both of you got along great, both having similar wardrobes and the occasional matching sunglasses. what began with conversations with solely lyla, even after work hours, ended with miguel joining in with the occasional wry joke every now and then. that slowly began to grow more into full fleged conversations with the three of you, and you and miguel had created a bond that seemed to be just about unbreakable.

he isn't big on romance, he likes to think, because he doesn't have the time for it. sometimes miguel says the words "the fate of the multiverse" and you and peter b. look at each other and snort a little, but sometimes you see the the corner of his lips twitch.

the first time miguel o'hara does anything remotely romantic is in battle, when some random universe's doc ock decides that you'd be the perfect victim. you weren't awake for most of it, but lyla tells you that miguel had practically dropped everything to save you, refusing to acknowledge the possibility that you wouldn't make it. he had stayed at the hospital every night to look after you, and every day grew into a week into two weeks before you were discharged, and during that time, both of you talked like there was no tomorrow.

when miguel actually realizes that he's in love and he's not having some sort of allergic reaction, he kind of sneaks in a small, quick question, even leaning against the wall to sound extra casual to lyla, "hey uh what's that new album taylor swift released" and lyla drops everything because . why is this man even asking this question . but it doesn't take long for her to connect the dots, and realizes that he wants to know more about your interests and what you like. lyla tells you, obviously, and fortunately, things progress from there.

once you two are actually together, miguel treasures lazy saturday mornings and cozy friday evenings. he even loves the "i'm so exhausted i might die" monday mornings on his way to the spider society, because he's with you. if you struggle with anxiety, while he might not know the best thing to do at first, he'll talk you through it every step of the way. but he won't ever pity you or see you as something broken, he sees you as someone who's deserving of respect, and most importantly, love.

Sparkstember Day 10: Whomp That Sucker (Where's My Girl)

A good time!!! That's the first thing I associate with this album. It's one of the earlier ones I've heard too and I was certainly a big fan of it from the very start. Not only that, but I think it was a bit of a groundbreaking point in my experience as a new Sparks fan, since I was trying to figure out where to go next and this was a good plunge somewhere in the midst of it all that proved that no matter where you go, you're going to get something special! And after a couple more months (I mean, it's been a bit over a year since that first listen already! How time flies) it still holds up in my personal rankings. Soooo well. Definitely very special to me!

I think it's safe to say by now that between the pair of Whomp and Angst I'll always stay partial to Whomp. The latter seems to be much more popular among fans, and I can understand that, but something about Whomp speaks to me much more. Both are fun, energetic new-wavey albums, still in the realm of rock but with some cool use of synths that would soon become even more important and a core element of the music. Still though, I think Whomp is more PURE fun - between many hilarious lyrics and the overall playful and lighthearted nature of it, I don't think it's possible to listen to this one and not feel even a little bit happier afterwards.

I especially love the whole atmosphere of it, what I call the spacey / sparkly synth, that gives it a little bit of an outer space feel, much moreso than the actual album called In Outer Space (but i'd better not get ahead of myself yet when it comes to that one, lol). This album really feels sparkly and even glittery to me in a weird way, and unexplainably, this all reminds me of like, sweets and chocolates like those cosmic brownies or daim candy?? That's what this album would taste like to me! Sweet and a little extra and always a good little treat. Damn, and now I want to try a cosmic brownie.

I don't even have that many personal favourites from this album even though I really really love it as a whole!! I guess it's a bit of a Propaganda situation, where there isn't that many super big standouts compared to the rest of the tracks, they're all just very cool and I mostly don't have that much to say about them individually, they're all just!! So fun!! (I mean, ok, Suzie Safety might be the only one here that I don't care about all that much. I'm sorry, Suzie.) So this is more of a Moments list than anything

I Married A Martian: mostly I'm just incredibly charmed by the story here

Where's My Girl: AARGHHH!!! WAAUUGHGH!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! SO MUCH!!!! The closest I can come to describing the feeling here is something like... song you heard a couple times when you were very young, enough that you remember how it goes when you hear it again, but can't recall it on the spot otherwise, and you forget about the song's existence until you hear it again after all those years and are hit by the biggest wave of nostalgia and longing for the past that you've ever experienced in your life. All that despite me never hearing this song until last year. Or is there just something I'm not aware of... Anyway, this was one of those rare and treasured moments of THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!! *MY* MUSIC!! Needless to say, this song stayed on repeat countless of times and I will never get over how awesome this guitar solo is. And again, the spacey synth!!

Upstairs: upstAAAAAAirs!!! upstAAAAAAirs!!!

Don't Shoot Me: big fan of the whole thing but I'm especially charmed by the little high-pitched "shoot!"s and such in the background, and "WHO'S HEEE???"

The Willys: the song itself isn't even my fav but the PHYSICALLY! MENTALLY! MORALLY! part is always very chuckle-worthy. That's the wondrous humour I'm talking about here

I mean obviously, you have the dance stuff and all but mentally and physically?” “Yeah, I prep for the show with all of the dancers 3 times a week for like… 3 months. But I work out every day also, even if it’s pilates or gym. Shows can be very hard on your body when you perform 5 times a week for two and a half hours, so I try my best to prepare for the year. And mentally I guess I just try to enjoy every quiet moment before going on the road. It’s very hard obviously being away from my friends and family but someone always comes to each show so that’s nice,” I explained. “And as I know, you bring your cat on tour with you.” “Oh absolutely. “Oh my god, on my last tour, I was in New York, performing at Madison Square Garden and it was like halfway into the show and I looked up to the… well VIP section I guess and Rihanna was there, dancing and singing along. I almost fainted.”

“Enjoy every second of it. I think especially now with social media, there are so many opportunities for people to make it in the music industry. And now, someone can easily take your place overnight if their song is gonna be a trend on TikTok. So I enjoy every little moment.”

“My sister Lily, for sure. She has always been my biggest supporter. Since we were little kids, she always made me sing her favorite songs. And even now, even if I have a show on the other side of the world she will fly out and dance and sing through the whole thing. She’s the best.”

“Come on people, night one,” I stood in a circle with all of my dancers. “I just want to say how proud I am of us and the work all of you put into this tour. I am extremely grateful for all of you because everybody in this crew is so amazing, dedicated, and talented. I want us to have fun. It’s gonna be a long road but we’re gonna shake up the world and do some incredible stuff. I love you all and let’s have some fun,” I said and we cheered before putting our hands in the middle. “Reflections on 3, 2, 1!” “REFLECTIONS!”

I stood on the lift and I got my mic handed to me. Then the intro for Ready for it began playing on a loop.

The podium rose and the crowd erupted in cheers and screams. “Los Angeles… Are you ready for it?” I said and seconds later the song started.

About an hour into the show, I was at the front of the runway part of the stage. Sitting on a chair with only a guitar and a mic stand.

“Before we dive into the next song I wanna thank all of you for coming,” I said and as soon as they started cheering I smiled widely. “The last few years were absolutely crazy. ” I looked around the stadium. “But now, we are finally at peace kind of and I think we should enjoy it. We worked so much on these shows because I think we all took doing concerts for granted and me and my crew want to give you the best. It’s so cool to be back on stage, in front of all of you. Uhm… I love you and thanks again,” I smiled and they all cheered which made me smile even more. I just love that they love me.

Doing another hour and a half was a little exhausting but I enjoyed every second of it. “Thank you so much, Los Angeles, I’ll see you tomorrow,” I blew kisses all around the stadium as the lift was moved down.

I walked behind the stage and as soon as I stepped into the hallway, I had champagne sprayed all over me as my friends and family screamed around me. “Oh shit,” I covered my face as the champagne was just coming. “Congratulations!” heard Lily’s voice before she hugged me as soon as the alcohol stopped flowing. “Thank you, it was so fucking cool,” I said. “Oh my god, it was!” She shook my shoulder and I hugged everyone who was around basically then made my way to the dressing room, changing to something that wasn’t covered in champagne.

Once I cleaned up, I checked a couple of messages on my phone when I heard a knock on the door. “Come in,” I said, still scrolling through my phone. “I brought some guests, sissy,” Lily spoke and I looked up immediately, not hearing a noise from the guests.

All of a sudden Blackpink was standing in front of me with shy smiles. I’ve met Jennie before and we clicked really well. She is a very funny and sweet person, but I haven’t met the other members yet. “Oh my god, hello,” I went to hug Jennie and she was quick to greet me too, before turning to her members. “It’s Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa,” she pointed at each of them. “I know, I’m a fan, you know that. It’s so nice to finally meet you,” I said, honestly feeling happy to meet them. “We’re happy to see you, it was an amazing show by the way,” said Rosé with a noticeable Australian accent. I put my hands together and bowed my head. “That means a lot coming from you. We should hang out. Are you guys free for the next…” I looked down at my watch, checking the time. “…couple of hours?” I asked and they all looked at each other before nodding their heads. “What do you have in mind?” Asked Jennie. “We could have some drinks back at the hotel if you’d like. It’s a calm place,” I suggested. “Let’s do it.” Jisoo excitedly said and we all chuckled. “We’re gonna be great friends, Jisoo.”

here is my attempt to create a complete record of comics, shows, and movies about girls that are in a band. migrated from a cohost post. i have personally seen or read all of these. i have also added editorialization with my opinions of them. each section is vaguely in a "most-to-least liked" order, but i tried not to think about it too hard.

my criteria is vague and ephemeral. but generally it is along the lines of: there is at least one girl, and preferably at least two, performing with a physical instrument of any kind with a group of people. purely idol groups dont count for this. also see: The Formula

we are lady parts: the only non anime entry in this section of the list, surprisingly! but a pinnacle of the form. i LOVE this show, it's incredible. and only twelve ~20 minute episodes total! the canonical girls in a band television show. it's funny, it's heartfelt, it's got hella band content. it's about a UK muslin girlpunk band trying to recruit an insanely anxious guitar player into their band while navigating family and relationships, like you do. this is one of my favorite early scenes in case you want more convincing: https://youtu.be/tzAGqmdOBzE

sound euphonium: this time, its a wind ensemble! the sports anime of girls in a band. incredible yuri. the first season is about Competition (guys we gotta rehearse real good and try and get past the prefectural competition!). and then the second season is about Trauma (band-wise, family-wise, relationship-wise, and more!). an adaptation of a bunch of light novels that are unfortunately mostly not translated into english (or not translated very well)

girls band cry: a truly fantastic show. as you can tell from the name, it knows exactly what its about. girl moves to tokyo to escape her family and then gets swept off her feet by an ex-member of a band she likes. this one is mostly about girls being pieces of shit. basically all of the characters are kinda a dick in a fun way, and it makes for great storytelling. going in, the main girl is sorta setting up to be a cute and demure, but it turns out she's a huge asshole to everyone around her. the band (togenashi togeari) is also a real life band that is performed by the voice actresses, and has great music and a 10-song album already! their music is very good. also the show is cg animation but it REALLY goes wild with it and makes the characters super expressive. literally no caveats on the style here like you normally get with cg, it's fantastic animation

bocchi the rock (adaptation of the comic): you've probably heard about this one. girl so anxious her animation is constantly melting gets roped into joining a band. takes the sorta ok 4koma and goes crazy with the adaptation, making use of animation to elevate the sorta basic 4koma gags into full-ass comedy scenes. awesome performances and music.

scott pilgrim takes off: reimagining of the scott pilgrim comic. even more great band content. it's good

k-on (adaptation): pure fluff girls in a band. very cute. kinda like spooning sugar directly into your mouth. it's fun. i wouldn't call it "plotless" but it's basically just about having fun with your friends in a band. oh my god as im writing this i just remembered this is an adaptation of a 4koma that i havent read yet, so i need to do that i have done this now

bang dream its mygo: yep, it's a bang dream! i havent played the gatcha games, but this is a perfectly good standalone show. sticks to the girls in a band formula. stop me if you've heard this one before: a girl wants to form a band, and tries to rope an anxious girl into joining. the cg animation is pretty good in my opinion, but it's still definitely that kind of thing where you might have to get over it

jellyfish can't swim in the night: this more or less slides into this list on technicalities (they have a guitar player and a pianist! and...a producer! and also an artist. they also do perform on a stage. thats a band, right? probably). an artist, who became disillusioned with drawing when her middle school friends mocked a drawing she was proud of, is swept off her feet by an ex-idol (sound familiar?) that's in love with that art piece she is now ashamed of. they form essentially an online artist collective, producing music and music videos with artist girl's art and ex-idol girl's singing. it's about being a Creator online and dealing with all that entails (online identities, shitty randos). the characters all have some Trauma from their respective middle school experiences, and they are working through it. the show started out very strong, but fell apart in the second half and now that it's finished i dont really recommend watching it. very unfortunate

carole and tuesday: directed by the cowboy bebop guy! very up and down. two girls living on Future Mars playing guitar and keyboard form a duo together. the first half was pretty good! it's about them forming their group and gradually getting more famous. the second half is horrible and has insane stupid liberal politics. (what if trump wasn't actually a bad guy he was just being blackmailed by an evil ai or some shit like that. ive pushed it out of my mind. just watch the first half if you want to see it)

whisper me a love song (adaptation): this sure is an adaptation of the manga! i think the manga is only ok and this adaptation is pretty cheap and brings nothing new to the table. also still airing at the time of writing so this adaptation just kinda ground to a halt with like 3 episodes left to go and there's no sign of it continuing to air. weird. it still wasnt very good

bang dream: yep, it's a bang dream! this is the only anime on this list i actively made the decision to stop watching because i hated it so much. i finished season 1, but then season 2 had awful cg and made it clear that i was missing things from not having played the gatcha. don't bother with this and watch mygo instead if you want an actual television show

movies

linda linda linda: my favorite movie and one of my favorite things ever. after a girl band lost two members before their big school festival performance, they ask the first girl they see to join their band as a vocalist, who happens to be a korean exchange student who doesn't speak much japanese. teenage shenanigans ensue as they scramble to figure out their new performance in just a few days. the story is portrayed in a kinda dreamy, meandering way, and is very much about high school girls being high school girls. they know they need to do something important but they keep getting distracted by other things in their lives

liz and the blue bird: my second favorite movie and also one of my favorite things ever. a spinoff of sound euphonium, set after the events of the first two seasons of the show, but very much a standalone thing that can be watched in isolation. two girls (a flutist and an oboist) are playing a duet in this year's show, but a fallout in their relationship in the years prior is still interfering with their performance. they need to resolve their differences and their love and their futures in order to ensure the success of the entire ensemble in the competition. everything about it is gorgeous. i don't know what else to say. a movie where just watching a performance can make you cry

swing girls: movie about teenage chaos. a brass band is going to perform in a baseball game. but then basically everyone gets sick. so they need to try and put together a new band! i gotta rewatch this one it's been a while my memory is hazy

sound euphonium our promise a brand new day (sequel): and now the direct sequel to season 2 of the anime! this is definitely not a standalone thing. remember liz and the blue bird? this takes place during that same year! you get to see the full performance of that piece! but this time it's about the girls from the show and in the show's art style

the runaways: kristen stewart plays joan jett in this one and she's so hot that it basically has ruined my ability to have any coherent thoughts about the movie. if that sounds like a pitch to you then you should watch it

k-on (sequel): sequel to the anime! the girls take a trip to london. not really a standalone thing but i guess you could watch it on its own if you really wanted to. just a great compression of the fun of the show into movie form. girls having a good time

scott pilgrim vs the world (adaptation): you already know this one. i like the story of the comic more but the character performances are great

josie and the pussycats: goofy in that disney channel movie kinda way. the government is secretly trying to use subliminal messaging in music to mind control people into buying things. and the girls' band is brought into this evil world. and only they can stop it....

we are the best: swedish film about some 13 year old girls trying to form a punk band even though they don't actually know how to play any instruments. it's fine! definitely girls in a band but it didn't do much for me

jem and the holograms: i really wanted to find a contrarian viewpoint on this movie to be like "everyone says its bad but i dunno i think its fun!" but no, it just is actually bad. four sisters rocket to fame after uploading one of the sisters singing to youtube. and also there is...a....robot? made by one of the girls' father, that uhhh beatboxes and leads them on a scavenger hunt? i only watched this like four days ago and it's already rolling off my mind. dumb in the "bad disney channel original movie" way (unlike josie and the pussycats which has a goofy camp charm going for it)

comics

how do we relationship: yuri about two college students who are in their school's band club. more focused on their relationship than the bands, but there still is a lot of band content and performances

scott pilgrim: what more can be said

bocchi the rock gaiden: hiroi kikuri no fukazake nikki: the better version of the bocchi the rock comic, since it's not a 4koma. follows a mostly drunken hiroi around, which is something we all want and need

k-on: a great 4koma! unlike the bocchi manga, this really stands on its own as a well-done comic beyond the (also excellent) adaptation. sticks to the format really well and has some truly hilarious gags that i think would only work in 4koma form. lots of fun. also holy hell mugi is really gay in it. im glad the high school sequel comic gave ui and azusa got their own volume to be in the spotlight, they deserve it

beat & motion: wow, jellyfish can't swim in the night really is just doing the same plot as this, huh. and it makes it into this list on an even more tenuous technicality than jellyfish did. an artist, who became disillusioned with drawing when her his middle school friends mocked a drawing she he was proud of, is swept off her feet by a ex-idol musician he's a fan of that's in love with that art piece she is now ashamed of an animation he posted online. this is DEFINITELY "boys in a band". and its KINDA "girls in a band"? im allowing this in the list because it's absolutely got the vibes and two women do play instruments together in it like once or twice. i am enjoying it so far, curious to see where it goes

nana: i stopped reading this after 9 volumes (out of 21) because it got kinda bad and boring. but i enjoyed everything before that! and there is also an anime adaptation and two live action movies i need to watch. two girls named nana, one of whom is/used to be in a band run into each other randomly and end up living together. sort of in the "how do we relationship genre" of girls in a band where it's more about the relationships inside and out of the band. but nana is very much in the band and performs a lot! this is the most heterosexual yuri ive ever seen. they say the most romantic things about each other and talk about kissing all the time and then will be like "damn all this romantic talk about my roommate is really making me hanker for a boyfriend"

whisper me a love song: bloom into you-kind yuri about one of the girls falling in love with the other girl's performance in a band. very basic yuri stuff

bocchi the rock: the manga that spawned the anime! it's a 4koma. and believe it or not, it's not actually very good. the anime did a lot to tighten up the jokes and storytelling

k-on shuffle: it's k-on again! but with different girls. as of writing only one volume is out. it's...fine! i dont care about the characters as much as the original show which is a pretty big knock against it

hello melancholic: also yuri, but didn't leave as much of an impression on me. girl gets pressured into joining a band because she's too gay to say no

kuuden noise no himegimi / kuuden no himegimi: less explicitly yuri, but, you know, girls. also didn't leave too much of an impression on me. guitar girl with an ex-rocker dad meets a girl with a beautiful singing voice. and then joins a band with some of her dad's rocker buddies, then tries to get singer girl to join. its kinda slow and very elemental to this genre in the sense that its mostly just people talking about the band and band related things (practicing, how hard it is to compose music, etc). also one of the few of these that lets its band be properly bad and disliked by people

But one day someone break my heart really bad, i’m girlfriend of one famous cosplayer in my country (he is cosplay to Hyde Laruku). He teach me everything about japan, listen Laruku song together even attend to Laruku concert but he betray me really bad. I’m so young that time and stupid so I became hate everything about Japan, including Laruku and Dir. I almost can speak fluently in japanese but try hard to forget every word in japanese, even i throw everything about Laruku and Dir. The album, The single, ticket concert, booklet, poster, EVERYTHING!

10 years later, in 2019. I accidentally listen to Dir song, IT’S AIN’T AFRAID TO DIE! I’m driving that time and thinking like what i had done these 10 years. Why I hate japan because of 1 person. So i feel bad why i throw everything about Dir last time?

And in 2018-2019 i almost suicide because my problem, then i start to Listen Dir song. So many things I had missed, i just know Dir already release many album.

After that, i find song by song that Dir release. And oh my god this is what I need. Every scream, every heavy guitar, the rhythm of drum, the psyco bass, make me feel better in my depression. I feel like my emotions connect to the song. When i feel sad, mad, but can’t express that, i listen to Dir song and make my calm down. It’s like, i can express my emotions through the song.

Last time i dont give attention to Dir member, but in 2019 i start to find the information of member and BOOMMMMMM my fav is Die ❤️ i love long hair man with easy going attitude. His smile, the way he talk, the way he joke, i love it all. And then kyo, ah this inhuman voice person. I just dont get it from where he can get that voice. Then shinya, the drum is really fucking awesome (my opinion). I know there so many drummer who can play in good technic, but in my opinion his drum is powerful. And then kaoru, his character really strong and i love his era in 2013-2016 with long hair. So handsome and sexyyyy.

Sorry for Toshiya, my sister is biggest fan of you and she remind me “DONT EVER YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM” LOL LOL. Actually it’s a joke but i feel he is too handsome for me lol. Look at him, long legs, handsome face, muscular body, tall, it’s perfect! In my opinion, there’s no bassist in japan can compare physically with him lol lol *sorry for other bassist fan*

Then after 2019, i start to pay my sin to them like try to buy all their single and album, but for dvd i still can’t because my distance to japan :( my plan is going to japan in 2025 and buy everything about Dir there, the album, single, dvd, ticket concert, everything!!

I hope God give me more money in 2025 so i can fly to japan ❤️ or maybe hongkong 🤭
